....a short list of some of the better quality door handleset providers? ...Baldwin, Weslock, and Schlage, so any comparisons with those as reference points.... Easy enough. So easy, you could do it yourself. A caveat: presently you don't understand enough about door hardware quality to be able to judge quality. Using brand names a source of quality was the giveaway. You could gain some insight in the Lock & Keys forum, or ask one of the smiths. Your next lesson - helping yourself. Comparable handlesets of the former brands: search engine: (1) (2) any tab (3) buyer's guide (4) USA (5) category: Locks & latches (6) check > Interconnected (7) search Did this answer your question? Not really. But, it answered it within parameters you can understand.

Shut the window, and look to see if there is a clip on the left side that needs to be locked back into place. The purpose of the clip is to stop the block and tackle balance and hold it in place while you raise the sash even higher, so that you can push the sash to the side to remove it. Maybe someone forgot to snap that clip back into place. Of course, as Johnam mentioned, it could also be broken.
